Job Description

The Contractor Field Service (CFS) Technician provides services that consists of maintenance and support of Kratos developed trainers at the training system installation site.  Works under the general supervision of the Test Manager and Program Manager and follows established Company Procedures.  CFS Technician requirements are those needed to maintain and support the training devices during the initial support period. CFS Technician responsibilities consist of the following:

  1. Insuring the training device is operational, by preforming Daily Operational Readiness Test (DORT) and regularly schedule Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs).

  2. Trouble shooting the training system electrical, mechanical, and computer systems when failures are identified during DORT, PMIs or by the customer.

  3. Identification of requisite replacement spares and repair parts required for problem correction

  4. All levels of maintenance and repair including labor, material, and logistics support

  5. Trainer operation

  6. Over the shoulder training of Government identified personnel

  7. Compilation of usage and performance data

  8. Maintain the inventory of spares provided to the Government with the trainer

The CFS Technician works under the general supervision of the Test Manager and Program Manager and follows established Company Procedures.  This position reports directly to the Test Department Manager.





  • Complete troubleshooting, alignment, adjustment, and inspection procedures of the training analog/digital systems, flight control systems, computer systems, audio/communications systems, simulated weapons, and graphics generator and projection/display systems.

  • Must interface successfully with the Government customer on a daily basis and provide the level of support for the training system that will keep the customer with a full up trainer on a daily basis. 



  • Support advance computer operated training systems with knowledge of the trainer system programming, software, and hardware, to perform software maintenance, including software and firmware loading.

    • Support the Government on site COMS contractor in the performance of preventive maintenance on the trainers in accordance with procedures outlined in the technical documentation.

    • Provide technical and advisory support to the assigned Government/contractor personnel and emphasize safety precautions.


Experience and Skills



Required –

  • Knowledge of basic test equipment including multi-meters and oscilloscopes.

  • Knowledge of Contractor and Government testing Processes.

  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office software.


Preferred –

  • Good communication and customer relation skills.

  • Sound reasoning abilities and judgment.




  • The position requires a secret security clearance.

  • Associate’s Degree or Technical Education Degree program. 

  • Experience of five years technical experience in simulation and/or five to eight years experience in associated technical field may be substituted for a degree.

  • Possess a general working knowledge of the Simulation and Training industries practices, standards and technology areas.

  • Military Avionics or Electronics background is a plus.



  • Smoke free environment manufacturing bay or Test Lab environment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs, access equipment in awkward locations and stand for long periods of time.
