Job Description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for installing and testing unmanned ground vehicle systems in various vehicles at Micro Systems or customer facilities. Apply appropriate processes, procedures, safety measures and tools to support ground vehicle system development, installation and support.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work independently or as part of a team as an electro-mechanical hardware installer to support the company’s Unmanned Ground Vehicle programs.

  • Be able to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems or challenges in a timely manner as they arise during system installations.

  • Capture and record installation procedures in a comprehensive and cohesive manner such that other personnel may be able to duplicate and repeat the installation process as you’ve documented.

  • Travel to customer’s sites within the U.S. or to Europe to perform vehicle surveys, system installations and follow-on testing as needed, oftentimes outdoors, and for a span of a few days to a few weeks.

  • Work independently or as a team to convert conventional ground vehicles, typically medium to large utility trucks from “manned” to “unmanned” operation by installing company’s proprietary electro-mechanical control system hardware using a wide array of hand/power tools.

  • Cut and drill into sheet metal or plastic of vehicles as required to facilitate installation of hardware while striving to be minimally invasive and avoid collateral damage to the greatest extent possible.

  • Route electrical cables and wiring, connect and adjust mechanical linkages, mount brackets and electronic enclosures, and all other associated parts and components in a neat and organized manner.

  • Support control system integration and testing after the installation process.

  • Communicate technical information effectively, both written and verbally, with other Engineering personnel.

  • Perform any other work-related tasks as directed by Program Engineer.

  • Support program development by recommending design improvements.

  • Manage job assignments and provide accurate job status reports to Program Engineer as required.

  • Operate medium to large-sized utility trucks.

  • Must be at assigned worksite during assigned hours 100% of time; less PTO, FML/STD/LTD

Experience and Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:   

Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards

Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary

Ability to adhere to workplace rules

Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems as they pertain to the automotive industry

Basic knowledge of automotive mechanics and electrical systems

Working knowledge of a multi-meter

Ability to create technical sketches, either by hand or in CAD software

Ability to read and write effectively in English

Experience with technical writing desired

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

HS Diploma or equivalent

Intermediate level of MS Excel, Word and Outlook

1-2 years’ experience with automotive, aircraft mechanical, electrical repair, or system installation

Demonstrated experience with a variety of hand and power tools

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Production and office environment

Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time or work extended hours as necessary

Ability to perform repetitive motion (use of arm-hand steadiness, finger dexterity, manual dexterity for small parts assembly, frequent use)

Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a CDL (at company’s expense) to allow driving of large utility trucks

Must be physically capable of maneuvering around the inside of various types of vehicles to access tight spaces, often outdoors in unconditioned air, in the performance of your duties

Must be able to work with minimum supervision and work well with co-workers

Travel up to 50%

Ability to travel by air or motor vehicle for work purposes

Possess a passport or be willing and able to obtain (at company’s expense) to allow for work travel overseas

Ability to lift  up to 50 pounds
